Every community has people in need; living quiet lives of desperation. Many of these folks are too embarrassed, shy, scared or nervous to ask for assistance.
Simultaneously, many of us are guilty of what I call “drive by Christianity”. I define that as follows: in a drive by shooting, the crime is a crime of commission. Someone consciously decides to pull the trigger. Drive by Christianity is a crime of omission. We consciously drive by people that we know have needs. We consciously decide to keep going.
The Bellwood Outreach Project is geared to reverse that. We look for people with needs. We slow down, pull over, stop by and say hi. We ask how things are going, and “do you need some help?” Since we’ve been doing this for over a decade now, people now contact us.
